Benefits and Drawbacks of Charcoal Grilling

Which is more important for you on a daily basis: flavor or convenience? Both of these are actually good answers. Your summer will not be complete if you do not master both in your arrosticini BBQ grilling.

When you want to grill your food, you need to be informed of the advantages and disadvantages of both charcoal and gas. Here are the benefits when you use charcoal:

  • It is much hotter. Temperatures in charcoal grills can reach up to 700 degrees. If you love to eat steak, only charcoal will give you that perfect steak with a caramelized and crispy exterior with a red or pink in the center.
  • Smokier flavor. The perfect smoky taste we all strive for in every BBQ.
  • Charcoal is a ritual. The reason why people like to grill outside with friends is that it becomes a social habit or ritual. What a fantastic way to enjoy the summer with your guests!
  • More portable. Charcoal grills are very portable. You can bring it along for a BBQ at the park, beach, or campground.
  • Inexpensive. Compared to other grilling options, charcoal grills are much more affordable.

Here are the drawbacks when using charcoal:

  • It is messy. Use tongs or gloves so that you will not get dirty.
  • It takes longer to cook compared to gas grills. However, you only need to warm it up within 15 minutes. 15 extra minutes for incomparable flavor.
  • Temperature is difficult to control. If you place all of the coals in the center, it will be typically much difficult to control. Place the coals on one side of the grill so that you will have several cooking temperatures. Keep the fatty meats on the other side of the grill in order to reduce the sudden flare-ups or ready yourself with a squirt gun to douse the flame.
  • Too much ash. Get a removable ash tray so that you will not have to remove the ash by hand.

Don’t be afraid to try out that succulent arrosticini BBQ recipe you’ve bookmarked. A common misconception is that charcoal grills are hard to light. In reality, you do not need lighter fluid. Place a piece of recycled paper under the chimney and throw the charcoal on top of it, light the paper and then wait for it to light up. Once you get the hang of it, you will find it easy to use and be a master at the arrosticini BBQ.
